I know that there are the brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings, but there's one group i'm missing. what is it? i need to know to get my music merit badge

I've never considered "brass & woodwind" to be the same family.
However they do list "Voice" as an instrument – and any good singer will tell you they refer to their voice as an 'instrument' that they have to take care of. Before all the synthasizers, a Piano was considered to be percussion because of the hammers inside of it striking the strings. The electronic age has created a new category of instrument.
It looks like the answer just depends on who's school of music you're learning from.
